Lesson Plans
Welcome to Lesson Plans
DigitalHeritage.org has collaborated with the Western Carolina University Adventure of the American Mind program to bring you a collection of teacher-made lesson plans. To learn more about Adventure of the American Mind, go to http://aamprogram.org.
Teachers created unit plans, lesson plans, and activities using Library of Congress primary sources, as well as local primary materials. As a result of the hard work of these teachers throughout Swain, Haywood, Cherokee, Clay, Jackson, Macon, and Graham Counties, and thanks to the Mountain Heritage Center, some of these resources and lessons have been preserved and will continue to serve as models for integrating national and local primary sources in teaching and learning activities and stimulate students to think critically and analytically about our Mountain Heritage.
You may use the AAM search function to locate a specific topic, subject or grade level. Each unit plan has a series of lesson plans, an image table and associated links. These unit plans include local primary sources not available anywhere else online. So, make sure to visit the "image tables" and see our local history come alive!
